Joanne, CRC
Joanne is mother of an adult married son, grandmother of two
school-aged children, retired for several years from state government,
currently very happily serving as Companion In Charge of the Emmaus Chapter
in Memphis and living in the place which has become known as the Emmaus
House.
Joanne comments, "Having been given the privilege of being CIC has been a source of much pleasure and intensification of commitment for me over the last few months. I believe that our Chapter meetings are the place where we go deeper into our understanding of ourselves as Christians in community and of the role of Christian community in the Church and the other communities in which we live.
I also enjoy (or sometimes just persevere in) being with, cooking for and
otherwise trying to stay in relationship with homeless people and others who
have been made poor and oppressed in our society, often finding what I
believe to be the image of God and my 'moments closest to Christ' in these
relationships. I try to participate with other communities in our midtown
area working for various "peace and justice" ministries. I have the time I
need for being quiet and alone. I'm finding being contained by the Rule and
the Companions of Rivendell to be fertile, life-giving ground.
