        Vocations

If you have a sense that God may be inviting you to a special way of life in religious community, the Episcopal Church offers a number of options to explore.  Check out information about Christian Communities recognized by the Episcopal Church at the National Association of Episcopal Christian Communities, NAECC.

There are several ways of being associated with the Rivendell Community--even if you live at a distance from an organized Chapter.  If you wonder whether you might be looking for us or we might be looking for you, we'd be glad to talk with you.  Contact the Inquiries Secretary, Susie, or phone 417-754-1054.

We're looking for...

  • people who value the life of prayer and are willing and able to devote significant time to prayer, both liturgical and personal

  • desire to live holy lives, wholly given to God

  • may be women or men, single or married, lay or ordained

  • are at least 21 years oldGroup w +Don.JPG (398407 bytes)

Residential members:

  • may be single (unmarried, widowed, divorced), or married with both partners willing and able to live in residential community

  • share a conviction that cultural values of consumerism, status-seeking, "me-ism," and insular individualism are death-dealing, both to ourselves and the world; and want to find faithful Gospel alternatives and live them, accepting both the cost and challenge and the joy involved

  • have the desire to become as fully transformed and available for God's purposes as God's grace makes possible in this life

  • are attracted to the ethos and work of Rivendell, and bring gifts, talents, experience, interests and other resources which can be put to use in the Community's work

  • are relatively unencumbered (financially and in family commitments)

  • are in sufficiently good health to take part in the life of their House

Companions (non-residential):

  • are full members who desire and intend to live with the Companions' Rule

  • support and participate in the Community's life and work (in prayer, financially, through time, work and expertise, according to their circumstances)

  • meet with one of the Community's chapters and are involved in its particular expressions of prayer and hospitality

  • may live in their own homes, with families, professions, and ministries in the world as well as the church

Associates

  • Support and take part in the Community's life and work

  • Commit themselves to a regular pattern of prayer, embracing the Community's Rule adapted to their own circumstances and vocation

  Friends

  • may participate in the life, prayer and work of the Community as they desire and are able

  • may contribute to the Community's mission through material donations and/or counsel, expertise and work.
